I love the Royal Copenhagen faun series, and buy them whenever they are affordable (which is really rarely).

But I was willing to break the piggy bank for a faun on a tortoise (pic.1), designed by Christian Thomsen because of its uncanny similarity to Francis Xavier Leyendecker's portrayal of "Sloth" in a Collier's 1910 cover (pic. 2)

So, I went researching. The original RC designs predates the Leyendecker by three years, having appeared in 1907!

Picture 3 shows the markings on the turtle, which was re-issued in 1958.

I bet these are rare, and expensive, prob at the very least 400. I know had I seen it at an auction I was attending I would be tempted, just love it !~Phil.

Go on E-Bay; the prices are ridiculous. I have only 4: the others are faun with owl, faun with frog and faun on a stump. I have bought mine at our local flea-market (NYC)
