Check out the poetry in the last photo and the visual modernist poetry on every page of this book / brochure. i'm still amazed that this is all from 1929! the name of the typeface: Sphinx - conjures Egyptian revival / deco phase?

      African masks in 3 & 4?
They all show the potential of the new typeface.

i was reading a book about Oscar Wilde the other day and he wrote a long poem called 'The Sphinx' in 1894, and published it with illustrations by Alaister. Apparently he focused alot on the typeface used which Wilde himself was purported to have helped design. it does look similar to this typeface. some consider this book to be the first 'art book' designed as such. there was a revival in egyptian stuff, along w/ a revival of oscar wilde stuff in the 1920s.
