In December 1905, J.C. Leyendecker published a rendering of Psalm 23, titled " A Song of Life" .
It consists of 6 drawings, plus a title page, an end page, and an explanation of the symbolism of the drawings. I consider them the most beautiful drawings ever to grace printed material, at least in this country (which has no dearth of fabulous illustrators, long before computers took over the role of graphic artists).
I have never seen them published anywhere. I assume this is the first time they are seen by a general public. They will require a second posting.
I dedicate this posting to my father, who many times repeated the 23rd Psalm to me to remind me to trust the Universe..
I also dedicate it to the victims of today's shooting in Manhattan, including the killer, who was himself victimized by the current economic climate.
