How old is this pipe? It was in my grandmother's collection.
I was told it was a moccasin carved native american antique pipe. Anyone know anything about it?
    Thanks!

this is fired pottery, right? that would make it 'constructed', not 'carved'.

i've never seen one before, but it looks interesting and it does appear to have some age. do you know what part of the world it is from? i'll assume the plains states, but if you know anything at all about it - like how you acquired it, it might help.

      Hi there,

What you have here is a fragment of a pre-Colombian Tarrascan clay pipe from Mexico, dated ca. 500 AD.
The shape is presumably derived from the mescaline cactus.

You can see a complete example here: http://pipemuseum.nl/index.php?hm=4&dbm=1&hg1=1&q=1&wmod=dia&sortby=datering_kruis&startnum=48&id=12360

      I hope this helps,
