Loetz empire perfume.. what more need be said? :) the bottom is marked with what appears to be a valid date., 1906 yfc or tfo or something like that and 172. I really don't know the significance of that.
It's dirty. I have no idea how to clean it. i know water can cause corrosion on metal parts and make the cement that holds the metal in place fall apart..
I've wanted a piece of empire for awhile and this is a very nice example. I really can't complain :)

Excellent piece, I love having items that are both beautiful to the eye and useful. I would say the scratched marks were put there by a previous owner so they would remember something about it, and perhaps a catalog number from their own inventory. I guess they didn't want to mar the gorgeous finish by putting a sticker on it. Great find!
