      Most interesting, ROBinHawaii!

Lundy, a type of 'heavy-duty' silverplated ware known as "Hotel Silver". We need better photo of hallmark to work on a date, please. Also, does the exterior have a lot of surface scratches? Any loss to the plate? Thanks!

Hi, Lundy! I'm back now. Thanks much for new hallmarks photo and your description. They help. Very hard to photograph silver, isn't it? So shiny!

Reed and Barton marked their silver with a date year symbol from 1928-1957. The Prohibition in America lasted from 1920-1933. IF - IF - this was produced in or before 1933, and if RIH's statement is accurate, it is possible that your pot might have seen service as a liquor cloak. (I don't challenge RIH's statement, I am merely acknowledging the sense of his word "Supposedly".) If your pot was produced between 1928 and 1933, there should be a year symbol on it. Here's a link with Reed and Barton's year mark symbols. Would you please examine this list and tell me if any appear on your pot? Thanks.

Directly below the date marks, there are some Reed and Barton hallmarks. Please look those over and see if you find yours. Below the marks is a brief history of the firm.

The numbers you mentioned will correspond I think to the manufacturer's item ID numbers. It is interesting to note that the lid and the pot have different numbers. I'm not familiar enough with Reed and Barton to tell if that means that there is a mixed marriage here, but I am very confident that there's not. Yes, I assume that the pot and lid are both original.

Your pot really needs a good cleaning. If there is no loss of silverplate, and the pot is in good condition - no dings, cracks or other damage, it could have some value. How much, I can't say. Very few Reed and Barton silverplated pots ever sell for $100 or more, but some of the rarer forms do. I have seen some for sale on ebay between $300 - 500-ish . Since I don't shop everyday for Reed and Barton silverplated teapots on ebay![ : ) ], I venture this value range opinion tentatively. I will say that I don't think that this is a rare form. Hope that helps! Nice pot - soon you could use it for hot tea!
