First let me say that much Czech glass was "embellished" with metal mounts, most of which are not even marked. Silver was used, and bronze, but most are cheap white metal with a patina that tends to wear off or disappear with time.
Second, the glass was many times obnoxiously held in place by metal screws placed into the glass by drilling holes into it. Other metal frames were built around the glass, effectively imprisoning it. Still others were nothing but attachments held by a wire.
On the other hand, many fixtures were made for specific shapes or sizes, no matter the glass. One frame could fit several pieces of glass.
I find those really useful. The one in Pic. 1, in addition to being in original condition, has an added advantage: it provides a rest for the vessel, but it must be triangular in shape and roughly 5" per side.
Pics. 2,3,4 show it being used with a Loetz and two PK's (more about the vase in Pic. 4 in another posting). All have polished pontils.
Purists may howl, I get really bored looking at immovable pieces of glass stuck in cheap frames and selling for $$$$.

I like to look at the frame as another decorative element, and evaluate it accordingly. Does the frame complement the glass, rather than overpower it or distract from the glass? Is the thickness of the frame appropriate to the piece? Is the frame attractive? In my eyes, the fourth picture shows the perfect fit of glass for the frame. In this picture, the frame looks like a natural extension of the glass.
Bingo. You have it. It was the original that came with the frame! But the others fit just as well.
Actually, no. i just remembered I bought the frame without any glass, and I bought it for the Papillon.
