This is a Equity Watch Co. Private Label watch with the dial marked:
SAN FRANCISCO JLY. CO.
784 MARKET ST.
It is the lowest grade (7-jewel) Equity watch.
Serial no. 167049
The case is a Philadelphia Case Co. made for Equity Watch Co.
The earliest date I can find for the San Francisco Jewelry Co. at 784 Market St. is in the 1917 business directory, that last date found is 1929.
The Equity Watch Co. was a secondary label used by Waltham to sell a less inexpensive watch without it reflecting on their better line of Waltham watches. The Equity brand was trademarked in 1911. Evan though they were a lower grade, inexpensive model, they were well-made and reliable watches. They usually came in Equity-labeled cases.
These cannot be dated using the Waltham serial number list.
This can be dated by the S.F. Business Directory (1917 - 1929)
