The Crayoff Mfg Co. started out under the name Celco Corp. producing their trademarked Crayoff line of crayons in 1948. They focused on crayons that were washable and they became one of the first crayon manufacturers to feature a washable crayon. They produced both consumer and lumber crayons under this name. The lumber crayons were developed in 1950 (no examples of boxes known to date and it is unconfirmed if they even came in labeled boxes). The key to their ability to wipe off came from the use of pure soap and vegetable pigments used in their crayon making process.
By 1952 they had moved to Monrovia, CA. In 1956 they moved again. This time they went to Pasadena, CA and changed their name to Crayoff Mfg. Co. as that was their primary product and it was receiving name recognition. They hung on until 1998 when they sold out to RoseArt Industries who took over their Crayoff trademark name and used it until 2006 when they cancelled the line.
