I recently acquired this height gauge from a friend who was an army machinist and ended up in Japan at the end of WW2. As they had very little tools to work with, the commander told the guys to go to a building nearby and get what they needed to do their work. I also got a vernier caliper and a long flat metal ruler.
The height gauge is nicely made, about 20" tall and it has a magnifying glass to help read the scale. Most of the steel parts are 'spotted'
