The greatest father a girl could have at least I thought so . I believe this may have been just out of basic training on base photo . I have to look for his discharge papers so I know what ship he was on . He never talked much about time in service and he passed away very young .

Kevin He enlisted in Wi then went to San Diego . I grew up in San Diego till a teen . I am not sure if that frame from studio is correct for photo . The only person that lived anywhere near Watertown which was and is a bend in the road was my Grandmother on my Mom's side . She would not have gone that far to have it framed . However there is one similar to that photo that someone hand colored . I saw that Watertown stamp and there seems to be no connection to photo .
Thank you Scandi :-) You look like your Nan and I look just like my Dad . I just hope I live longer XOXO
Thank you David ,petey , vetraio50 and pw-collector !
My dad would have to have been about 35 in 1955 . He is about 18 on this photo Kevin he enlisted at 17 years old :-)

He sure was a good looking guy. A wonderful keepsake to have.
Kevin we may have been in same place in USA for awhile . I miss San Diego but it is not the same as it was when I lived there . It was much safer and I lived across from a empty canyon we played in that is all houses now . The weather was perfect ! If my Dad had not been transfered to Abilene TX to missile site we would never have left . I hated TX and then we came back to old homestead in Wi . I was a year under age to refuse to move from San Diego so I had to go . I remember seeing swarms of white everyplace all the sailors . They were always watching out for us as kids . Never met a sailor who wasn't helpful and polite back then .
Thank you musik and kathy :-)))))))
Thank you mrmaj :-)
your very welcome manikin:)
Thanks official :-)
Wonderful photo!!! I'm sure that your good father thought the same of you, Manikin.
Manikin, My dad went through boot camp at San Diego in 1939, he was assigned to the USS Tern in San Diego. The fleet was moved to San Pedro in early 1940 and later that year was again moved it's new home port Pearl Harbor, TH
I have been puzzled by, what I thought was a quonset hut behind your Dad, in your picture. Then I spotted the two story building far in the background and realized that this was on the north side of the inlet at RTC. I knew where it was located. Of course it would have to be on the north side which was the older section.
I was there in 1968 and for half of my training was barracked in the newer south side until graduating to the north side; to be closer to the parade grounds I suspect.
The leggings on your Father reminded me of one of my duties on that side, of sorting leggings by sizes in a building (probably not far from the one in your picture.) The pile of leggings was about 20 feet high and I was by myself in this work. No doubt the leggings worn by your Dad was in this pile.
Thanks for the memories!
mrmaj was this in great lakes or San Diego . LOL I can see you with a pile of those leggings and wishing you never saw another pair :-)
Never seen Great Lakes my vote is for SD.
Thank Kevin. I just can't tell where I lived in San Diego we did have tree's like that and lots of dirt . Great lakes has more rain and grass ? I have to find his Military discharge papers . That is going to be a feat . I have the one for 2 step dads my first husband that died all in one spot my Dad's were put in another . I looked at it about a year ago but have no memory left I guess :-) Do they still wear leggings ?????
My Photo is more than 30 years old Kevin so does that mean others wore them before the "rifle drill team ?" I am sure he wasn't in rifle drill team but then I wish he had talked more about what he did .
Kevin, my question would be, When did the do away the Cracker Jack uniforms? When I was in the USMC, the Navy was wearing the Ice Cream Man uniforms for the most part, never seen any while I was in or aboard ship.
I got out in 78 so that would explain the lack of them while I was around.
Very nice picture of your father!! Must be where you get your good looks from!!
Good reading! As AR8Jason I was at San Diego also but it was 1968 and we did not wear leggings either except for the guideons and flag bearers in parade. But that didn't stop the Nav from keeping a building to store all these hundreds of relics.
Thank you junkman that was so kind to say :-)
