Southbend "The" Studebaker. 21 jewls, Lever set, adj to 5 pos., Gold jewel settings.... & 101 yrs young. After all the years ive had this watch, im still amazed. Of all the watches ive had, this is one ive never let go. Ive never had a jeweler clean it, & have never let anyone adjust" it. Though over the years, ive had many dealers want it......Its mint in my book... 10 yrs ago,One inparticular, 1st offered 600, then 800, then 1200, now when i see him he offers me 1800. I told him he could look at it here, LOL. To me thats a 1970s price. There undervalued & you may as well just keep em. Its easier to get 1800 buks, than a MINT condition watch like this. It still keeps perfect" time. I set it to my cell phone & whenever i check it, as sure as the sun rises, it is spot on...... Americans made some High Quality items in the past. Underated then, & underated now.

Very nice Studebaker 229. I agree with you and would hang onto it. Thanks for sharing it.

I have always(I'm 66) gauged the economy by the current prices of time pieces & antique guns. When I look at the selling prices now, it scares the hell out of me!
In many/or most cases, these items are selling at below 1950's prices. If you figure in the devaluation of currency/purchasing power, collectors items are selling for about 1/5th of the 1950's value. Actually less.
Scary indication of the economy. Weapons & timepieces have set the standard for quality & excellence for hundreds of years.
I agree. Many people dont get it. The fed gov allowed minimum wage to stay at $5.15 for Ten Years Straight 1997-2007. But in the same ten year span, voted eight times for a cost of living wage & GOT IT. Increasing there salary $33,000 in eight years. Mc cain was 1 of them that voted against it ten years straight. In the 1970s a minimum wage worker made more then than now. It should be about $13.00 an hour. But we wouldnt want corps like wal mart to suffer. If you do the math, the billion dollar corps, would still be billion dollar corps. In fact millions of people would have more to spend helping our economy. But a Gop member summed up there thinking " if we increase minimum wage, those people will spend themselves in to debt" insanity @ best
Don't forget that the powers that be also keep voting to increase the debt limit, probably to pay their increased salaries. Do Americans believe that there is some giant universal credit union that loans money? They are just authorizing the printing of more worthless "money" which I see as counterfeiting. The 1700's cry should be "Taxation with misrepresentation".
Well this isn't a political site but sure hurts collecting.
Very nice watch! What's the serial number? Judging by the position of your regulator you should definetly think about having it cleaned and oiled soon though... Also, it looks to me like it's been re-cased. If you look you can see the spots where the original movements case screws have marred the inside rim of the case... Still, a super desirable watch in beautiful condition!! Thanks for sharing it!!!
Yes i believe its been recased. Who knows when. I know a cleaning wouldnt hurt it. lol, But i Guess it depends on who does it....... I was told 20 years ago , to have it cleaned etc etc, but i never did, & it still keeps Perfect time. When it starts to vary 1 min. in 24 hours, i will have it cleaned then.
