As promised; the second post regarding this Sampson Mordan pencil presentation box. First post can be found here:

The first photo shows the lift-out cushioned section holding the main Sampson Mordan silver pencil holder & letter opener. The second photo shows the amount of trouble the makers went to, by fitting a sterling silver base surround, just for it to "sit on"! The third photo shows just how carefully constructed the inset cushioned "tray" is, as it grips the heavy silver pencil tight even after 100+ years!

The fourth photo shows the contents of the box more clearly than the first post. It includes another Sampson Mordan pencil, but this time what is called a "magic pencil". It is this pencil that takes the "Lead Refills" and the "Compressed Ink Refills". This is also solid sterling silver and weighs 32 grams. It is an important piece in it's own right and I'll do a further individual post on it.

Thanks miKKo, most kind! My lovely wife bought me this fantastic set for my birthday this year, and to say I was pleased is a slight understatement! I dread to think how much she paid for it, but I have valued it at just under £1000!!!!! ($1650) with all it's constituent parts.

Hi, Hems! I think she must love you. I reckon it would be fitting to pen a love note of some sort with this wonderful pencil ensemble. For instance, you might sketch Mrs. Hems303 in an impromptu 'pose' (e.g. while she's absorbed in a book, oblivious to your presence), and include a legend containing an affectionate or devoted statement, and perhaps a date. You might even do a companion sketch of yourself sketching Mrs. Hems, with another suitable legend. You'll think of something. Or, actually, I am sure that you already have....

MrsAR8Jason...Many thanks for your kind "love it", especially as it was MrAR8Jason a.k.a "Kevin" who first got me interested in CW with his very fine posts, and then it was he; who encouraged me in the early days.

    Kind regards

With regard to my comment .9 above: It is with regret that I point out that AR8Jason has deleted all his Collectors Weekly posts showcasing his beautiful and extensive collection of antique gold, silver pens and pencils.
