Another lawn ornament.
Dragged this out of the bush where it has been laying for decades, it was put there when the crank shaft broke.
It's what known as a hit & miss engine.
I have not been able to determine the maker of this engine as there are no markings on it.
Most engines of this type had a horizontal positioned cylinder, very few were made in the vertical orientation.
Could date from the late 1800's to the early 1900's

Look under Lister diesel generators & you will find your "hit & miss" eng.. We existed at my club in Jamaica for several yrs. with one before we got regular power put in. That was in the 70's. We kept it serviced even after that is the local power went out about as many times as the sun set.
@ blunderbuss I looked at a lot of pics of Lister engines & didn't see one like this.
This is a gas engine.
When I Googled up "lister diesel generators", "bing.com/images" shows 1 virtually identical except it has a larger base. First pic.. Well, I was wrong once in my life! If I weren't so modest, I'd be perfect.
