Here is a tall Steuben gold Aurene vase in a flower-form that is very Tiffany-esque. The finish isn't perfect (a little spotty) and it has a hairline, but I have never seen another like it. The base is signed and numbered (524) and I still don't have a good Steuben reference (recommendations?) so I don't know how early it is. I knew it was damaged when I bought it, which kept the price down, and I sort of knew that I'd have trouble finding another, so I didn't worry so much about the damage. IF I find a perfect one I will let it go, but I'm not holding my breath, as they say. Does anyone have anything similar? Is this a rare piece? I suspect it is. Maybe Steuben stopped making it because it was too close to a Tiffany shape/form? I wouldn't think that would have stopped them, but Louis C. Tiffany did try to stop others from copying his stuff, from what I've read. Any ideas would be more than welcome. Enjoy!

the shapes started at number one in 1902 and continued in a linear fashion thru 1932. I think the final shape number was 7000 something. So I'd guess this was 1910 or so..

Paul Gardner's book I think is the standard for Steuben.. I don't know if there is a better one out there.
