I believe this pieces made by Loetz but was hoping someone may be able to verify it.

It is a good sized piece, don't have a tape measure around but I'd say about 7" wide.

   the big loetz drawing book shows this was made in 4 sizes. the largest has a note that it was made in the early to mid 20's and has a note that looks like it was made in tango. (the others don't) the 7inch size shows cut glass line drawings as well as not cut glass. and it says it was probably made for the firm Bawo and dotter in new york.

   I need to get my hands on a loetz book, but have been confused as to which I should get. From what I understand the one in a foreign language is better than the english version...is this correct? Unfortunately I don't speak any foreign languages and am trying to decide which is best for me as I hear the good book is really pricy. Any tips would be much appreciated.

    I don't have the German version. that one I believe is in two volumes. I want that one but haven't found it. the English version by Cantz is very good and has a cd with line drawings. it's also hard to find though. it took me over a year to track down a reasonably priced copy. I got my copy on discount from Germany because it was in English not German and no one wanted it. I thought that was pretty funny. I placed the order and they wrote me back and were like it's in English is that ok, then a few minutes later they wrote.. oh wait... never mind. LOL. The book that the line drawing I posted a pic from here is pretty much impossible to get in the states. it's a great book but they only made 300 copies (IIRC)and it's not sold by any booksellers online that I am aware of.

    just a note Hosch did decorate bowls with this shape . Ref :- Truitt s 1880 - 1940 page 76 .admittedly not this technique (that we know of ) . So could be a loetz blank decorated either in-house or by a decorating Co.

    Great story Alisa and thanks for the info. I need to look into how importing things here works. I have seen a few things on European ebays I would have liked to bid on but had to pass as I am not familiar with the fees or how the process works. .

    A blank decorated by another company. If it were not for the shape, we would not know it's Loetz. And extremely important as a research piece. Here you have an example of what I just pointed out: shape is not decor.

    Kyle, I found a very interesting piece that is on a shape that is similar to a known loetz shape with stripes that to me look identical to an ausf 157 shape with this same pattern on it. As such trying to determine if it loetz (like I strongly think it probably is) I've been researching this pattern. It IS indeed a Bawo and Dotter pattern also associated strongly (more strongly) With Honesdale decorating company who were close with Bawo and dotter. Protsch who started Honesdale was working for them up until 1900. This Pattern is called Versailles.
