Far from home, cold, tired and alone Christmas in the field can be a trying time for any soldier. The Swiss soldier was no exception and just like with the Central Powers of the First World War Swiss medals and pins commemorated this hardship. Illustrated here is a Christmas in 1939 medal from the Swiss 1st Frontier Brigade. The obverse depicts a cold and dark looking section of the Swiss border which was the Christmas scenery shared by the soldiers who originally received this medal. The second pin is a generic cut out of a Swiss soldier with no mention of a unit.
Next a modern discharge medal.
