This is a 1950 full page magazine advertisement for Blatz Beer made by Blatz Brewing Co., Milwaukee, Wisconsin. - It features a promotional quote from Dan Dunyea, American star of stage and screen who was currently appearing in "Johnny Stool Pigeon". ---- The Valentin Blatz Brewing Company was an American brewery based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It produced Blatz Beer from 1851 until 1959 when the label was sold to Pabst Brewing Company. In 1969, Blatz was acquired from Pabst by the G. Heileman Brewing Company. Heileman, in turn, was acquired by the Stroh Brewery Company in 1996. On 8 February 1999, prior to its dissolution in 2000, the Stroh Brewery Company sold its labels to the Pabst Brewing Company and to the Miller Brewing Company. By 2007, Blatz was once again part of Pabst.
The "Blatz" beer label currently is produced by the Miller Brewing Company of Milwaukee, under contract for Pabst Brewing Company, managed by CEO, Charles Thomas Blatz who coincidentally shares the last name of the previous founder.

These beer ads are really striking.
Old cigarette ads and liquor ads used to be promoted by entertainers (TV or movie stars, singers, etc.) - I remember such shows as I Love Lucy and the Desi Arnez show, Jackie Gleason show, and even the Jack LaLanne show all were sponsored by cigarette companies.
Oh, I didn't know that. I think that I was too young to notice the ads on these shows. The first TV ad I can recall is a commercial for Alkaseltzer. I am astonished that Jack LaLanne ran these commercials!!! That alone is a commentary on the image of the cigarette in the 1950's. It was stylish in some circles to smoke...In passing, let me observe that I could understand very well why Ricky and Alice might choose to have a drink or a smoke....Lucy and Ralph drove me crazy.
