I received this matroyshka doll from an elderly friend. I've been told that the base of the doll indicates that it was painted by Ryabova and that the paintings on the bellies is just a nice Russian countryside with winter sports. Does this seem consistent with any knowledge you may have of matroyshka dolls? Do you know any other information about this? Have you seen this particular doll before? Do you know what its possible worth is?

    Thank you.

hi justjenjen! yes, the base of the doll may indicate the artist and place/city. sometimes they even put in date. usually you see this type information/writing on 'artist dolls' from 80s-present. your set looks to be from 90s.... the wonderful paintings look like russian life to me... but, i am no expert on russian winter sports. i may google country russian winter sports to find out :) their worth can be a bit more challenging. if bought at retail/sold by artist... they can be tagged from $60-100--total guesstimate. but, if sold on ebay, for example, it may sell for a lot less as it depends on the collector or buyer's preference. quality, age, condition and number of dolls can be a guide to price.

do you collect them? if you do, enjoy!
