This is a Cold War era ashtray that probably sat on the BN Commander's desk during his service.
Bowl has the Commanders name, unit crest and dates of service.
The Battalion was 8 inch self propelled guns and based out of Dachau, Germany. It was part of VII Corps, 72nd FIELD ARTILLERY GROUP. Probably a pretty good assignment for this time period.
Back is marked by the German firm that made the ashtray.
