Just acquired this Early Folk Art Painting of a Horse in Stable. It is signed by the artist, J. A. Davis on lower left. I googled J.A. Davis and found an artist named Jane Anthony Davis (1821-1855) whom was known for folk watercolors and paintings. I am looking for any information about this artist and/or painting. It is in excellent condition for its age. Medium Oil on Canvas.

Do you know what part of the county this J.A. Davis was from ? I have a J.A. Davis in my family line . My father , brother , my daughter , grandson's and I never had any art training yet we can all draw and do a little painting . Just wondering if this J.A. Davis may have been our ancester .

This came out of an antique estate in Gettysburg, PA. It may be in your blood. Sorry for the delayed response.

sign5 : That is alright . I was really just sort of kidding around . I love horses and when I was a kid I was always drawing and painting them . I still have some of my pictures here somewhere . My J.A. Davis was a man and the person that did this painting was a woman so I do not think there is a connection really . My J.A. Davis was in the Civil War , Company A , Illinois 29th Inf.
