My wife's grandfather brought this home from Europe after the war, along with many other items. The box has seen better days, but it is original to this badge. This was made by GWL, or "Gebruder Wegerhoff Ludenscheid". I have been told that this particular badge is very desirable to collectors.
OK, so now I have a collection of WWII items. I thought the badge would look good displayed with other items, so I bought the Luftwaffe helmet, crosses, canteen, replica grenades (I have added a pineapple grenade since this photo was taken), a replica Luger, and a piece of aluminum panel from a P-51 that was painted to look like art from the side of Josef "Pips" Priller's Focke-Wulf 190 fighter aircraft. It was presented to him by a veteran's group in Europe and subsequently ended up with Priller's nephew. It makes a nice backdrop for the shelf, and I love the story.

GREAT Piece!
In the 70's I collected German WWII officers dress daggers. I had some very rare examples. I eventually sold them to a dealer when I started to collect Russian Icons. Quite a switch !
I never collected any other war items intentionally. What I have are things that came from relatives. I have two bayonets that came from my late uncle (US Marines), one is of hammered iron and the other is Japanese.
