I found this photo in boxes containing history and photos of my grandmothers family. Other than, very faintly printed on the front, and printed on the back, McGee's Studio, Indianola, Iowa, there is no other writing to identify the photo.
My grandmothers father moved to Iowa in 1851 and in the spring of 1860 bought a farm near Indianola. At the time when this family history was done (1899), he was still living on the farm. I'm not sure if this is a photo of his farm, but is a interesting photo of early harvesting.
Visible on the arm of the hay baler is a part of a brand name starting with E (unless there is a letter behind the wheel), and ending in ERLESS. A steam powered tractor on far right. A man with a bicycle, second from far left.
The photo is 8-1/8 inches by 4-7/8 inches on a backing card that is 10 inches by 8 inches x 3/64 inches thick.
Any information dating this photo would be appreciated.
Thanks for looking,
