My late brother-in-law bought this Chinese Urn through a reputable antique auction dealer - this urn once came with a catalog but after 20 years of moving around, the paperwork got shuffled and now lost. Please help me identify this with regard to time period and what it is called. I seemed to recall reference that it was from Ming dynasty or circa 800.
Measurement:
13" = height
7" = length
5" = width
4.5" = urn top section height

Hello, curious piece you have, but not Chinese. The Ming dynasty began in 1368 and lasted until 1644. Your piece appears to be modern, European, and made of terra cotta with an applied ceramic slip which has crazed. From the the impressd copyrighted 'ELLE' . I would date it post 1950. I looked at ELLE ceramics on Google, found several, but nothing in the nature of yours.

i think that the 'ELLE' copyright pertains to the photo, not the piece.
Hi ho2, You are right, it's in two different places in the first two photos and I found it at the bottom of the third, which I didn't see before. Can't find it on the fourth. However, I still believe this is a modern piece, The unglazed terra cotta in the fourth photo shows no sign of aging. Thanks for the heads-up, Jim
i noticed that the bisque in the 4th photo looked very modern too.
