1920's Wiggler Spinning Rotoscope on Boyce Motometer.

Spinning Rotoscopes were a favored mascot because they were mobile, this example attached to a Boyce Motometer. The big company here was Wiggler of Buffalo N.Y., other examples not marked are referred to as Spinning Rotoscopes. Marked Wiggler and attached to a Boyce Motometer and radiator cap, The 4 cups have a star imprinted on each of the 4 cups and are painted on the inside with alternating colours of red and Blue, the top surmounted by a larger chrome ball. I have added an Egyptian style Wings radiator cap to display the piece.

This and associated base was from the auction July 29 at Matthews Auctions in Nokomis Ill., it was lot #5 and incorrectly described as the radial engine that was lot #6. It is one of my favourite pieces from the auction and I have not seen another for sale since July to mid October.

The alternating colors in the cups are interesting. Given what you have shown, in full spin mode the driver must have seen a whirling purple band. Very cool, but I suspect not conducive to safe driving! These would be the early 20th century version of texting and driving. ;)

True but then the speeds in 1925 were no where near todays and congestion of roads was probably only a problem in the big city. Cellphones and texting are completely dangerous in a car, but people do it every day. Not me. I need all my attention in a car, and if I had my mascots on a car I would be consumed, would be looking at them all the time !~

Thank you Neil, they are wonderful, although getting so expensive it is hard to afford some of them now. Once in a while I get lucky. Phil.
