This is a 1955 magazine advertisement for Old Forester Bourbon Whisky produced by Brown-Forman Distillers Corp., Louisville, Kentucky bottled in a glass gift decanter by Raymond Loewy. -- Old Forester was first bottled and marketed in 1873 by bourbon-merchant George Garvin Brown – the founder of the Brown-Forman Corporation (whose descendants still manage the company). During the Prohibition period from 1920 to 1933 it was one of only 10 brands authorized for lawful production (for medicinal purposes). It has been continuously on the market longer than any other brand of bourbon (approximately 140 years as of 2011), and it was the first bourbon sold exclusively in sealed bottles. Old Forester is produced at the Brown-Forman distillery in Shively, Kentucky (which is located directly adjacent to the Southwest boundary of Louisville). Bottling variations include Old Forester Classic (86 proof), Old Forester Signature (100 proof), and Old Forester Birthday Bourbon (intro. in 2002, 95 proof).
