I found this while going through my Aunt's belongings after her death. Her husband was in the military and served in Newfoundland during WW2. He was a officer. The ship is 6" long and made of lead or some other non magnetic metal. Too heavy for aluminum. The forward and rear gun turrets turn. The ship is made to look like all you can see is above the water line. I thought maybe it was used on war maps to show location of our fleet. Any help with the explanation of the ship would be appreciated.

      Hello,
This ship model was produced during WWII for the US Navy, technically it is referred to as a "Ship Recognition Model". It was use to teach seaman how to recognize "Friendly" from "Enemy" warships. At the time there were Boxed Sets used in classrooms, many, many models were made.
At this moment I do not have time to search out the exact ship this, my best guess is that it is "Unfriendly", probably a Battleship. Note towards the center there is an Observation Plane catapult, if I remember correctly US Battleships had the plane catapult at the aft (back) of the ship.
      Anyway, I hope this helps.
