Can anyone translate what the writing is? I believe it is Urdu.

It looks like a teapot to me, but not certain.

Hi, I believe from the shape of the vessel and the script that it is an Indian wine (or perhaps water) pitcher. The alphabet is likely Syloti-Nagri used for writing Sylheti, an eastern Indo-Aryan language spoken by around 10 million in the Sylhet region of Bangladesh and in parts of India.
Devanagari, another alphabet used by Indian peoples is also a candidate, but I think the Syloti-Nagri is closer. Best wishes, Jim

Brass ewer and pretty nice one too. Looks kind of Moorish style but small photo, agree with wendell on India Aryan language. Nice item.
