I believe the PPL could be traced to Pedrini PPl - Italian makers of kitchen utensils. - Cucino & Co. is a very fine Italian restaurant with at least two locations in New York City (I've eaten at one of them) - Can't find you a date but it does look to be circa 1970's as you said.
