These 2 chairs seem to be VERY rare! I can't find out any info except era and origin. Anyone have any idea as to who designed these stunning chairs with porcelin wheels on the two front legs of each chair. the timber used is a grainy honey-coloured wood. Any idea of what they are worth now?? Bought in (now closed) Scandinavian Antique shop in Oxford St, Paddington in Sydney in the mid 1990's for $1500 each.
Have seen similar photo but more ornate called 'Swan-neck' chairs.

Can any one show interest and enlighten me?

Any markings? Original fabric? I am guessing not...
I doubt they are worth more than you paid but I would certainly get a professional opinion. I would check around for mid century modern dealers in your area. I would also check for MCM bloggers in your neck of the woods who might assist.
Although still highly desirable, these types of pieces were at their zenith in the 90s.

The shop was called Gamla Lan. They are called "Svanstolar". They came in pairs. If you need more info I'm sure John would help you out. I bought most of my furniture there too twelve years ago. These days he's in Dank St. They would be mahogany or birch but could be elm or körsbör. Search "Swedish biedermeier era Svanstolar or Swan/Slipper Chairs" and you will see another pair in the States. I think most of them were originally painted in 'cream' tones.

The term Biedermeier is German and refers to a time period of 1825 - 1850. In Sweden they refer to this time period as "Senempir" or Karl Johanstil after their Karl XIV Johan (1818-1844). The style reflects not only German taste but also a Danish version of Biedermeier. The Swedish version is slimmer and more streamlined to my eye.

Just realized that Björk is 'birch'.
