Here is the sixth part of the "Restoration Series" on this, our 1959 British Daimler Ferret Scout Car. The military vehicles are the "centre" of our family Military Collection. This is the Mk2/3 variant.

Photo .1: The Ferret is still outside and has been stripped down to it's component parts except the running gear. The gearbox removed, taken to our machineshop and one good gearbox rebuilt out of two "knackered" ones! In this photo you can see the exhaust "muffler" laying on the ground after extensive welding and reconstruction (they are not available off the shelf down at the local parts supplier). The engine is fully renovated, serviced and ready for the exhaust system to be refitted.

Photo .2: The fully refurbished and rebuilt gearbox/transmission (in it's new; British Army "Duck's Egg" Blue, engine/transmission coloured paint); leaving the machineshop for refitting to the Ferret which is laying ready and waiting. (All the interior of the Armoured Car has been fully renovated and repainted ready).

Photo .3: The author wielding the spanner! The gearbox is fully refitted and functioning after much heaving, shoving and swearing! In this photo; you will notice (black) the two new huge battery boxes Keith had to fabricate as the originals were eaten through by battery acid leaks over the years (one under my elbow and the other in the foreground right). You will also notice compared to earlier posted CW photo's; the interior of the crew compartment is now spic'&'span, with gleaming new silver (standard) paint. ALL internal equipment and fittings have been removed and taken away to be refurbished and in some case completely remade if unobtainable. (I will show some of these in a future CW Post)
