Hi,
To get this trunk to be insect free an not smell like Decomposing canvas all I had to do was was to remove it. Wrong. I love to learn things the hard way. Removing canvas and the glue is only the start in a long and time consuming task. Then there are the boards, slats nails. This could be a long story. So maybe later with all the details.

This is sometimes in my favorite list. Why because of the knots and the dimples in the wood. Especially the knots. When they are buff out the colors are stunning. It still allows you to see the contras of the light golden pine sparkle against the dark grain.
Plus it belonged to my Grandmother.

he minus side is the weight. The dimensions of the trunk are 32x22x20
When the chest is empty it has weigh 75+ pounds. When full like I have mine, I can not pay someone to move it. 200 pounds. I can't be sure. for reason stated above.

I'm thinking the trunk maybe 1860 on up. I really have no clue.
I would welcome
any information on this type of trunk

Lovely example of a flat top trunk around the turn of the century. Looks like the wood may be cedar judging by the color -- or is it pine and its just the stain that is a little reddish? Nice job on refinishing. Thanks for the post...
