My mother bought this item in a package deal of old things from a storage shed in Carrollton GA a few years back. Today mother gave it to me as a conversation piece that I now have in my living room but I truly don't know what it is nor what it was originally used for. It is metal and has been painted several times and has some rust build up on it. Does anyone have any ideas what it is and what it was used for? Any ideas of what to make out of it?

I believe it's a plant stand, too...put it in your front hall with a big bowl to collect gloves, mittens, keys etc....

I like your suggestion Ollie of putting a big bowl in it to collect items in the hall. This is an interesting and unique website.
