Here is the seventh part of the "Restoration Series" on this, our 1959 British Daimler Ferret Scout Car. The military vehicles are the "centre" of our family Military Collection. This is the Mk2/3 variant.
Photo .1: The Ferret (with it's turret refitted) is moved out of the snow and cold weather (and the sun immediately comes out!). Once in our paint shop all openings on the Ferret are masked off. Full preparation is given to the armour plate and body as there are years worth of layers of paint, applied by the Army (one thick layer on top of another, with little proper thought or preparation)
Photo .2: Hours of rubbing the paint down with water and abrasive "wet & dry" paper and vile alkali paint stripper! (We know it's an "armoured" vehicle but we didn't realise that the paint was armoured too!.....REALLY tough to get flat!)
Photo .3: The final coat of standard matt British Army Green is applied and now waits to dry.
Photo .4: The paint work work is finished and the Ferret emerges back into the sunshine.
Whilst this has been going on, ALL ancillary parts and equipment are being refurbished and prepared ready for refitting back onto and into the Ferret (I'll cover this in a bit more depth on my next "Ferret Restoration" CW Post)
