I'd love to know more about this odd mish-mash of styles - Sino-italianate?! Sorry that it's so dirty. Does anyone recognize the maker's marks on the bottom? thanks!

This is Chinese in origin and probably and probably dating from the late 19th century. It is referred to as a Jardinierre or Fish bowl and is a great example. I have never seen the Goldfish painted in Iron Red on the interior before but a great job. The characters you see on the base are of the factory and artist who painted the piece so look after it

The 19th century versions and into the 20th century were almost always painted cobalt blue but I have never seen a version with the fish actually painted inside - quite unusual. Iron red and cobalt blue was a common colour combination in the mid 19th century

i'm confused by your messages. i find fish bowls w/ the fish painted inside all the time. i have like 6-7 pairs of them at the moment. ??
the rim is familiar and the inner scene also, the combination with the outside makes it early republic i think
