This is a postcard sent in 1915 Iowa with a car with a Kewpie doll hooked to front as a hood ornament :-) Note says got to church on time . I guess the doll was not dressed for church but they made it . I bet the little girl that owned this bisque doll was wondering where she went , To church on front of the car ???? Them are some pretty stern looking woman I would get them there too ! is the Little boy driving ? Card appears handwritten by child and he addressed it wrong and it was returned . Gee no texting then ? :-)

Pretty timely postmarked card, I love it, Rosie O'Neill Wilson of Day Missouri created the design in 1913, most famous which was the kewpie sitting down, knees up and elbows on knees and havds on the chin, and coupled with the eyes looking to the left and the smile was just over the top cute, Mani !~ Variations in the design came to market and this card is pure gold !~ Some of the designs were made in Argentina, produced there. This card is beautiful, thank you for the sunshine, love !!~

The driver took the photo, the boy is in the middle of the front seat. The chains are probably for muddy, unpaved country roads (Note the lack of snow and a sunny, but cold day in September or October - postmark is October - trees still in leaf). And the postcard was not returned - that stamp was to inform the recipient to tell the sender their correct address! It also looks like they used a regular letter stamp, not the penny postcard stamp! Mail always found its way to the recipient in small towns! Great picture!

This picture reminds me of my Grandfather’s house in Ricketts, Iowa.
I have not been there since the late 60's, but plan on returning.
Have "Google Earth" it numerous times & it has not changed since b4 time. No stop light, smaller than Mayberry of T.V. fame.
Every Summer our family took the train from CA to Iowa. We left early evening from CA, chugged over the Sierras as evening approached, then sped across Nevada, & awoke to crossing the Great Salt Lake in Utah.
It was a much different train trip then now.
My sister & I both talk how this was the best time of our lives.

Dear Mani , I received this photo card in the mail today and thank you for sending it my way. I would post this on the site but my photos changed so much after changing to windows 8 and I am still trying to get some of the software that I lost or that it removed when it was put in. Love the card and you !~Phil.

Alpha1 maybe this was one of your relatives that would be nice . Did the name register for you on card ? Reminds me of driving every year from CA to Wi . Long ride with 4 kids in a backseat of a car . Thank you for stopping at my post and love your story you added and glad it brought back memories :-)

    Manikin,
    The name did not register.
I remember moving from Ohio to California in the back of a 2 tone Red & White Oldsmobile Delta 88 w/ my sister. We stopped everywhere.
