I have been waiting for months to find the time to strip these chairs down and finally post them! I am very curious to see if anyone knows anything about these chairs (they are two of the same chair, one still has the unoriginal upholstery on it, and it is not pictured here.)
I acquired these at an estate sale a few years ago. Supposedly the were rescued from a flood or a fire by the old owner. They are still very sturdy, and in decent shape, and I am considering having them professionally restored if it is worth it. I am not sure if they are hand-carved, but it does appear to be hand cut joints (all joints and pieces are marked with roman numerals/numbers). The same words are written in script across the top of all four seat stretchers:
"2689-14 MADE IN ITALY"
I am very curious to know if anyone is familiar with the design or knows about when these were made. Thanks everyone!

The Style looks like English Rennaissance hall chairs, which were popular in the early 1920's. Italians made a lot of reproduction style chairs all the way into the 1950's and I own a pair of them which I love, although they are in the style of Venetian chairs. Phil.
