British WW1 helmet, believed to be from the Rifle Brigade.
The Rifle Brigade (Prince Consort's Own) was an infantry rifle regiment of the British Army, formed in 1800 to provide sharpshooters, scouts and skirmishers. They later became part of the Royal Green Jackets.

Hi Petey, why would this not be the King's Royal Rifle Corps, rather than the Rifle Brigade?
Hi Chrisnp, just what I was told when I was given it, but I am always open to other suggestions. Both badges have a Maltese cross in them, so I am not sure.
I was hesitant to even ask, as it is clearly your area of expertese. The reason I did was that my KRRC cap badge came with a red felt backing under it, and of course is blackened and no surrounding wreath, which matches your helmet. Of course it does not follow that a Rifle Brigade insignia couldn't also have these features.
Thanks for looking Chrisnp, officialfuel, miKKoChristmas11, PhilDavidAlexanderMorris, kerry10456. When I have more time I will have to do further research, you could well be right Chrisnp.
