Sorry to tell you, but you might just die! It has pipe threads & nipple like for high water or steam pressure. Can it be a whistle or high-press. relief valve?whistle?
Look up steamship whistles. I think blunder has it right on the mark.

Yes this is a nice brass steam whistle probable train or steam ship. They sometimes use these on a two step like a tractor and these are highly collectible items. Michelle Renee' DuBois
