I have three gold pocket watches, one of them 23jewells with the original bill of sale from August 1860 by James Mcabe that was commissioned by Thos P Lamphear. I have found that Abraham Lincoln commissioned James Mcabe to make two watches for him although I dont think there is a connection betweent the two. But imagine paying 90 dollars for a 18k gold watch in 1860??
I have another that seems to be custom made by a jeweler himself Chas F. Artes who it turns out was a part time archeologist and had a collection of indian artifacts that date back to the 1400's. They are in a museum in Evansville.
The other watch is a beautiful Waltham watch from 1873. I believe its womens though and the back is inscribed with the name wm ellery.
The good news is they all work still so i will never be late!!
