I got this vintage canvas Boy Scout knapsack awhile back, and it was super cheap. Like maybe $1.
It's around 15 inches top to bottom, so a little small on me, but solidly made and perfect for a day-hike bag. I'm curious if anyone can date the bag style, possibly using the Boy Scouts insignia or the "No. 1225 Day Hike" bag label on the back. I love the "PROPERTY OF -----" label with a place for your name/address/troop number.
I'm guessing it's from the 1950s, though I did find a catalog with the 1225 bag in it from 1932: http://books.google.com/books?id=9iDdlDIHnsIC&pg=PA33&lpg=PA33&dq=boy+scout+day+hike+bag+1225&source=bl&ots=TqWP1WF5mx&sig=Dg0mMbNBSgWJ9n-fn05ddbvmoFM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=LjuUUN7POMuVjALUlYCwDw&ved=0CEAQ6AEwBg#v=onepage&q=boy%20scout%20day%20hike%20bag%201225&f=false
