I found this lovely dinosaur at Dixon's furniture auction in Crumpton Maryland a few weeks ago. Quality workmanship includes dovetail joints on the drawer. And it works! It has a vacuum motor which draws the lid (with rubber gasket) tightly against the glass. There are 16 light bulbs under the glass. Some are clear and some are amber. It has several unopened packages of photo-sensitive paper which I'll post separately.
I found no other images of this on line. The only reference to it are a few posts on eBay selling newspaper ads for this product from the early 1940s
It was apparently used aboard Navy ships.

It's the original finish and had just a few superficial scratches and a little dust. I used a microfiber cloth and just a little "Old Gold" furniture polish. I'm guessing it might have been in a Government surplus warehouse. I think these were on Navy ships in WWII as seen in newspaper ads for sale on eBay.
I bought mine for $10 at an auction and no one else bid on it. It's a weekly auction that draws a lot of dealers and ordinary individual collectors like myself.
I have a friend who works at the Baltimore Museum of Industry who said they would not be interested in receiving it as a donation because they already have more items than they can display.
I'm keeping mine because I'd like to use it as a light table for tracing paper templates, etc.
I suggest posting it on craigslist because there's no charge to do that. Ebay would probably be better, but there is a fee...I don't have an ebay account so I don't know exactly how it works.
