Found at the DC Big Flea market, the thing that attracted me to this piece other than the quality of it was the color combination, which is striking, with bubble inclusions and aventurine swirls and colors of brown and light blue. Gold enamel scrolls and gilt florals adorn the exterior. Fire polished rim, ground and polished pontil. It appears as though there may be the remnants of an engraved signature, but I a can't make it out. The only comparable piece I've found (same colors and decor, different shape) was also attributed to E.B. Leveille (La-VAY), a follower of Francois-Eugene Rousseau. Leveille won a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900, he was known for extremes in shape and decoration.
