I've long been on the look out for an old, authentic porcelain push bar. They are not easy to acquire, as there are a small number of collectors who are fierce about bidding on these beauties, and they typically go for a bundle. I scored this early 24-inch "Ice Cold Coca-Cola in Bottles" version on a BIN, approx 29% book value (listed as "rare" in Petretti's 12th pg 228). It is a lot rough on the ends, but still a great looking display piece and good value. Under the magnifying glass, one can see the ends have slowly cracked like glass as the door it was attached to slammed shut over and over and over and... I bought this gem to flip but fell in love upon receiving, and mounted on the mantel with old cushion tacks. This is push bar #2 for me, now joins a 30's tin job, "Drink Coca-Cola in Bottles", which looks like a million hands pushed on it over the years.
Glad to be back in the good old U.S.A. and looking forward to exercising my right to vote next week. We are blessed in America. Hope you East Coasters are doing all right, please be careful out there.

Welcome back Trevor. Oh wait, you're not Trevor. I got confused with the roached Coke item. Never mind. Me likey how you displayed it on the mantel.
Thanks TGBWC! This one is just like you: rough around the edges with a big ol' sweet spot.
And I'll be hanging onto the mantel next Saturday night after drinking one too many Jack & Cokes.
Mighty fine pusher Dave. and it does look nice on yon mantle!!
Thanks Tom. Hope you all avoided that nasty Sandy and are safe and sound.
Hey that's my drink too Ray! Dave I love it! I also love where you put it, does your wife like it nailed to the mantel or is it totally your space?
Thanks Perry. Yeah, it's my.. uhmm... "our" space! As far as the mantel goes, we discussed that Jesus and the wedding photos stay in place no matter what. There are a few things more important than collecting! :) The first time she came down, I nodded toward the fireplace and said "See what I did with the push bar, doesn't that look nice?" I got "Oh, yes, I hope it doesn't fall off," in response. She had a funny look in her eyes...
Hey, missed you on the CWA award show the other night, could not find it on the air in Mexico. (I was subjected to an hour of Luis Miguel during dinner one night with the plant employees.) Do you know when it will be re-run? I'll be sure to DVR. Hope it went well.
Lookin good Dave!Hope you had a great holiday!
Thanks Bernie. That was no holiday. All business. Site readiness assessments for a new system at our Mexico plants. Enjoyed the view of Mexico City and Tijuana through the window of the van. And San Diego was super, for the two hours of daylight I got to spend there! Ate the best meal of the year at a place called The Fish Market, the upstairs restaurant, out on the deck. Beautiful view and incredible lobster dish.
