PIC. 1. TWO KRALIK POWDER OR JEWELRY BOXES IN THE BANDED PATTERN, MARKED WITH GERMAN PATENT MARKS.. NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE IN CONDITION OF THE TOP. THIS IS A PATTERN WHICH ALSO APPEARS IN A SQUARE FORMAT.
PIC. 2. DURING MY FEW DAYLIGHT HOURS LAST WEEK, I DECIDED TO POLISH THE TOPS OF MY 60 ODD INKWELLS AND BRITISH HALLMARKED RIM VASES. I ALWAYS KEEP SPARE WELLS AROUND, AND I NOTICED THIS REALLY HUMONGOUS ONE TO WHICH I HAD NEVER PAID ATTENTION. AT 2.5' WIDE, IT IS THE LARGEST OF MY WELLS.
PIC. 03: I FOLLOWED A HUNCH. I PLACED IT IN ONE OF THE POWDER BOXES AND BINGO, I HAD ANOTHER INKWELL!
BY THE WAY, WELLS ARE MUCH RARER THAN INKWELLS THEMSELVES. I PRIDE MYSELF IN THAT EVERY ONE OF MY INKWELLS HAS A CORRESPONDING WELL, FOR WHICH I SEND OUT TO ENGLAND. NOT CHEAP EITHER, AH BUT THE INCOMPARABLE PLEASURE OF DIPPING YOUR PEN AND GETTING STAINS ALL OVER YOUR HANDS AND CLOTHING . . . .
KEYBOARDS AND INTERNET ARE HASTENING HUMANKIND'S INABILITY TO WRITE BY HAND . . . EXCEPT THAT IF THE LIGHTS GO OUT . . . .
