Just by looking at the mark, it doesn't really ring a bell for me. Maybe if you could show what the item is, it might make it a bit easier to narrow down possible makers.

I was looking at the vase. Very pretty, btw! I was wondering if this might be a "P" in side of the diamond shape and that what looks like the leg of an "R" might be a lower case 'h' or another letter entirely. Hmmm...

Just a thought.. Jimbo had a look and wondered if it was "P" with mountains underneath. Hmmm again!

I have spent endless hours doing research on the web, but I cannot find out anything. Fact 1) we know it was made in 1888, 2) almost a fact , its European ??and 3) It is amazing

      Thanks for all your sleuthing

I believe this is German - Diamond With A PH Inside - I believe this is your mark but I can't get any more info because I'm not a member of their site, but it's a start for you.

Bonhams in London saw it and said it was English Arts and Crafts

      Did they mention a maker?

No but they thought it may have have been a factory blank that was painted by one of the artists in the a factory.
