This is an unusual ambrotype on milk glass and dates from the mid to late 19th century.

I have seen these identified before as ivorytypes or just "milk glass ambrotypes". The process for this is the same as for any other ambrotype but because of the type of glass (like a ruby ambro), no backing coloration is needed.

The image has been expertly tinted/ painted to bring out the details of the image.

The image is a standard sixth plate. I really need to put it in a case to show off its true beauty.

Reproduction of these images in any form is not authorized.

Very nice ... from time-to-time I run across tinted milk and ruby ambros. This is one of the better examples.

Thanks for looking and commenting, rob. This is one of the better examples of milk glass images that I have seen as well.
