Manikin
(485 items)

I received this from my grandmother .it has never been refinished and when buzzbuzz posted theirs I for first time in 20 years see a label on mine hard to read but pat date is clear Sept 29 1894, last number looks like 4 very hard to read ' It also says it will solve and then hard to read the bottom of label says Rev. and Barsly Tap or Bible Table ? and a line above something by maybe a co. Anyway it dates the table and I wonder if it was for a church ?
Has glass claw feet and does have a bit of carved design on sides .The top is several pieces of wood glued together not sold piece of wood
Here is what I found since posting
http://en.wikicollecting.org/conrey-birely-table-company
The Conrey & Birely Table Company was an American furniture manufacturer that was located in Shelbyville and in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The company later changed its name to the Davies & Birely Table Company.

Brief history & description

Founded by Jacob Conrey and Charles Birely, the Conrey & Birely Table Company was established in 1874 and began operation in a building that had been abandoned by the DePrez Furniture Company when they moved to a larger property. The factory was badly damaged by fire in 1875 but when rebuilt it was the largest exclusive centre table and library table factory in the world and had over five-hundred employees.

The Conrey & Birely Table Company specialised in a knock-down table which included a unique furniture leg attachment patented invention. This allowed the company to produce furniture using “knock-down” construction, a simple method that required almost no tools or equipment.

The company’s name changed to the Davies & Birely Table Company in 1901, when Charles Davies became president of the firm.

The company ceased trading completely in 1909.

Guide to collectors

Conrey & Birely Table Company products are extremely rare and instances of them being sold through auction houses are uncommon. However, when they do appear at auctions, pieces generally sell between $150 and $250.

Generally, items that are in good condition and are of higher quality are more valuable than items that are in need of restoration. However, should a Conrey & Birely Table Company piece need restoring, then collectors are urged to contact professional restorers.
