My wife and I hit the local antique shops today. We found this ships Telescopic Alidade interesting since it was on the ship MARKAB (AR-23)
and I know AR8Jason was on the same type ship. I read where the MARKAB was launch as a maritime ship SS Mormacpenn in 1940. The Navy acquired the Mormacpenn in June 1941 and reclassified the ship to
USS MARKAB AK-3. In 1942 the MARKAB was reclassified to Destroyer Tender AD-21 and finally in 1960 the MARKAB was reclassified to repair ship AR-23. the ship was decommissioned in 1969. The MARKAB received one campaign star for Vietnam War Service.
