I was digging around in my storage building and came across these pics, I had forgotten all about them. These were taken in April, 1972 , when I was overseas in the Army. That is me on the right. We were sent to extract the tank.
Just in case anybody was not sure, 57 ton tanks do not float and do not extract very well when they are up to their turrets in mud and water. Fear not, we got it out, with the help of our trusty M88 VTR.
I hope everybody has a great Veterans Day.

Nice pics, they just had to see how deep the hole was!

Mr. Packrat, Happy Veteran's Day, enjoy the show and parade, will be watching for photos of same.
AR8Jason,
elaborate on "big".
Big cars for big veterans. Sounds fair to me.
My first thought was "Well, there's your problem!"
Please tell me they had the smarts to shut the eng. down before it sucked mud & water!
If I remember correctly, the turbochargers were spinning when it hit the water.
Thank you very much for the kind words kerry10456 & miKKoChristmas11!
Thank you for the love kerry10456, miKKoChristmas11, blunderbuss2 & musikchoo.
Reminds me of the story of the country boy who passed by a plumbing store in the city. A sign on the front of the store read "Cast Iron Sinks."
On seeing this the country boy said "Any darn fool knows that"!
WELCOME HOME ALL VETERANS!
Re #15, Oh, that hurts! Operators don't think that fast.
